Wednesday 24th May
Sunny evening 20 over cricket at Newbridge Fields versus F Troop. Meet up was 5:45 latest, Amal gets there for 6:05…you know the drill.
Wick CC - 102 for 7 (20.0): Rob Dixon 26*, Chris Day 24, Kenny Thomas 15* F Troop - 103 (11.4) : Paul D 25* for Wick
It had been a scramble to get players so a welcome debut to Swampy and F Troop skipper Wayne kindly loaned us Paul D. He doesn’t bowl but bats, stand in skipper Dicky should have seen that Trojan horse coming.
Wick batted first, 25 and retire, Steve out early, Dicky rattled off his 25. Paul D and Colin at the crease, Paul D had been run out on the weekend, Colin drives through the covers and sets off for a run, calls it, “run, f@?!ng run, f@?!ng, f@?!ng run” was the gist of it but the non-striker remained planted and Col was run-out. One version of what happened next was that Col accepted this misfortune with grace and dignity, the other version is akin to an angry Gallagher brother being dragged out of the Hacienda circa ‘95.
Chris D hit an impressive 24 before Paul D then ran out Amal. Kenny strolled out, 4 off the first ball and a sweet 15 runs overall. Paul D reached 25 in the 18th over. Tailenders had a swipe and Wick ended on 102 including two more run outs. Neal wanted to make clear he did contribute a run, even if not off the bat.
Won’t bore you with the details of the F Troop innings but they hit the target after 11 overs with more retirees than Benidorm. Kenny said he broke one of his spikes to explain the sixes he conceded.
Back to the United Service club for sarnies and beer. Paul A stunned us with some factoids; women cannot make machine gun noises and men cannot skip. Who knew! In much chipper form Colin slid away and don’t look back in anger, I heard him say!
Thanks Wayne and F Troop for the game, we just can’t beat them…until next time
-Rob Dixon
